About Captain Stephen

Stephen Smith is a proud Huu-ay-aht First Nation member with a lifetime of experience on the waters of Barkley Sound. Having lived in Anacla his entire life, Stephen brings over 30 years of hands-on experience operating vessels and harvesting local species such as salmon, halibut, and prawns.

Throughout his career, he has supported numerous fisheries, ocean research initiatives, and community programs within Huu-ay-aht and beyond. Stephen is deeply committed to sharing his knowledge and mentoring youth, particularly through programs that focus on traditional fishing practices and environmental stewardship.
